THE LOCATION – ARBOL VIEJO
Arbol Viejo boutique development is located at the top of Matina Vista I above Dominicalito Beach in the highly sought-after Escaleras area. Arbol Viejo only has 7 total properties and is surrounded by a 60+ acre reserve that goes all the way to the top of mountain and consists of primary rain forest. The amount of wildlife in this area is astonishing and you will enjoy sightings of monkeys, sloths, toucans, parrots, deer, agoutis, pasotes, ant eaters, and potentially even jungle cats such as: ocelots, pumas, and jaguars have all been spotted in the area.
Located only 6-7 minutes from the beach at Dominicalito which is a beautiful cove shaped bay with stretches of sand for walking and rock formed tidal pools to explore at lower tides. Idyllic palm tree lined beach is perfect for morning or sunset strolls and also a great place for beginner surfers. The famous beach town of Dominical is 10 minutes from the home with 2 super markets (including the new air-conditioned BM), many restaurants and cafes, pharmacy, spas, yoga studio, and Friday farmer’s market. Plus Dominical boasts world class surfing and a long sandy beach with scattered pebbles.
THE HOME – Casa Bambú
Designed and built by the original developer of Arbol Viejo with a professional engineering background the home is over built solid concert and block construction. The husband-and-wife team thought of every detail; and her personal interior decorating skills created a comfortable home that is a joy to live in or visit. The current seller is the second owner and has maintained the home impeccably during their tenor. This home has never been a rental property; so no extensive “wear and tear” from renters.
The inspiration of the home comes from the expansive sky, endless ocean horizon, and natural environment incorporating stones, woods, and earth tones throughout the design and decor. Meant to be contemporary, aesthetically intriguing, and elegant without being cold or too over the top opulence. Seamlessly bringing the nature in was the goal and this home celebrates the quintessential indoor/outdoor living of Costa Rica.
ENTRANCE, LIVING ROOM, KITCHEN, AND DINING
Entering the home from the enormous covered portico spacious enough for 4 cars you are immediately greeted by the “WOW FACTOR” of the view out to the seamless transaction of the infinity pool, sea, and sky framed by lush green mountain and immaculate landscaping. This combined kitchen, dining and living room space has grandeur scale with 24 feet (7.3 meters) high vaulted cedar wood ceilings with decorative bamboo beams traversing across towards the oceanside of the home.
The accentuating feature of the open floorplan is the enormous dining room table made of a single slab of hardwood perfectly centered in the room elongated towards the view and outdoor spaces. Chic upholstered chairs complete the 10-person dining table perfect for gatherings of family and friends.
The fully equipped kitchen has all high-end stainless-steel appliances and exotic granite counter tops. Solid custom cedar wood cabinets with hand-crafted artisan bamboo designs were created specifically for Casa Bambú. The sofas were imported from the US and surround the Ron-Ron hardwood root coffee table. A massive cross section of a cedar tree adorns the oceanside wall creating unique piece of natural artwork.
Two oversized mirroring staircases lead to the upstairs suites complete with artistic hand-crafted metal railings with bamboo design and wood handrails. Plus wood inlays for the border of each step adds to the sophisticated blend of natural materials and the numerous intricate details of Casa Bambú.

The robust solid concrete columns are also encased with the same corolina tiles for an enhanced aesthetic. Below the pool is a hot tub with Royal Veta stone tile and ergonomically designed seating for 10 people. A teak and stone outdoor shower can be closed off for privacy and ideal for rinsing off when coming from the beach.
The rancho outdoor covered BBQ and bar area is fully equipped for the ultimate in entertaining. BBQ grill and cook top with stainless steel fridge, sink and Guapinol hardwood slab bar top plus solid wood bar stools. The Palmex roof material is long lasting synthetic palm thatch allowing for the tropical look; while eliminating the upkeep of replacing thatch palm material every couple years.
